The Challenge

Golden eagles face many risks including collision with wind turbines, electrocution, vehicle collision and lead poisoning. Minimizing the number of eagle deaths caused by any one source is essential to maintain the golden eagle population in Wyoming.

The Opportunity

Hunters have an opportunity to participate in golden eagle management. For this effort, we are asking hunters in southeastern Wyoming to help us offset eagle deaths from other causes by voluntarily using lead-free ammunition to hunt big game. To do this, we are distributing free lead-free ammunition to eligible hunters.

Hunters with a qualifying tag will qualify for 2 boxes of lead-free ammunition.

Who is Eligible?

If you hold a limited-quota license (types 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8) in the hunt units shown below, you are eligible to receive free lead-free ammunition and participate in this study. The hunt areas are as follows:

  • Antelope: 43, 46, 47
  • Deer: 70, 74
  • Elk: 16

General tag holders are not eligible even if you plan to hunt deer in one of the included hunt units.
